2002 Banksia Communications Award
Healthy Parks Healthy People, Parks Victoria, VIC
This paper describes the Parks Victoria, Healthy Parks Healthy People (‘HPHP’) communication campaign which was developed and launched in May 2000. The campaign was developed to raise awareness of the importance of the Victorian parks and waterways system by establishing the link between a healthy environment and a healthy community.
The whole community was identified as the target audience, with seniors, adolescents and stakeholders targeted as vital to the campaign’s success.
The funds for the program were used for broad based awareness – an 8 week radio and print program with supporting activities culminating in the ‘Victoria’s Parks Festival’ in Albert Park, supported by four weeks unpaid editorial from the Sunday Herald Sun. Posters and brochures were developed & distributed to general practitioners’ surgeries statewide. A significant contributor to the success of the campaign was its endorsement by staff and in particular the championing by regional staff and by their communications teams.
The campaign benefits to date have exceeded expectations.
