War on Waste is a provocative, controversial documentary series that uncovers how much waste we produce as a nation. In this four-part series, it gives the audience tools on how to implement changes into their everyday lives to reduce the amount of waste they create per household. To date, the series has reach a total of 2.7 million metro viewers (and is the top ABC program this year among the Under 50s demo) and the ABC iview War on Waste collection has clocked up more than 450,000 plays over the past month.

Winya Indigenous Furniture Pty Ltd, NSW

Winya is the most socio-environmental focused furniture in Australia and it is a majority indigenous owned furnitured company. The Arnhem range is a social and environmental collaboration with remote Northern Territory Indigenous land owners and a remote Indigenous mill to provide waste timbers off mine-site clearing to produce custom made soft seating. Yarra Valley Water – Converting Waste to Energy, VIC

Yarra Valley Water has constructed a waste to energy facility which 100 tonnes of food waste that was previously destined for landfill will be processed every day into biogas via anaerobic digestion. Enough energy will be generated to run the facility and the neighbouring treatment plants. Any surplus energy will be exported to the electricity grid, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and Yarra Valley Water’s reliance on traditional sources of electricity.

Reaching 100% with Australia’s First Commercially Operating Community Mini Grid by Totally Renewable Yackandandah in partnership with AusNet Services, VIC

Totally Renewable Yackandandah (TRY) is an incorporated association and community advocacy group working with the Yackandandah community to generate 100 per cent of the town’s electricity needs from renewable sources by 2022. TRY has partnered with AusNet Services to develop and implement a four stage Community Mini Grid to achieve this goal. Successful development of the mini-grid will have significant implications for the nature of the national electricity grid.
