War on Waste is a provocative, controversial documentary series that uncovers how much waste we produce as a nation. The Arnhem range is a social and environmental collaboration with remote Northern Territory Indigenous land owners and a remote Indigenous mill to provide waste timbers off mine-site clearing to produce custom made soft seating. Salvaged timbers that would otherwise be burnt create Indigenous employment both in remote areas and apprenticeships in cities.
AccorHotels is leading the sustainability agenda in the hotel and hospitality sector with a focus on sustainable Positive Hospitality. They acknowledge their unique position to positively influence the community as the largest operator of hotels in Australia with 200+ establishments, over 10,000 staff and serving more than 6 million guests annually. Since their first environmental charter in 1998, AccorHotels has been driving sustainability performance in its operations and demonstrating its leadership in the sector.
Yarra Valley Water has constructed a waste to energy facility which 100 tonnes of food waste that was previously destined for landfill will be processed every day into biogas via anaerobic digestion. Enough energy will be generated to run the facility and the neighbouring treatment plants. Any surplus energy will be exported to the electricity grid, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and Yarra Valley Water’s reliance on traditional sources of electricity.
