2018 BANKSIA IGNITE SDG CHALLENGE
Transurban manages and develops urban toll roads in Australia and in North America. Starting in 1996, it’s now a Top 15 company on the ASX.
Operating roads in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, Transurban has committed to SDG number 11, which seeks to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
Every day we hear or experience firsthand how Australian cities are buckling under the weight of congestion. Sydney’s congestion is now worse than New York’s, despite being home to almost half as many people. And yet during Sydney’s peak hour, it’s been reported that nearly three quarters of all cars driven by city workers are carrying just one person. Could the solution to our congestion woes be staring us in the face… right there in the empty seat next to you on your drive to work?
For its Banksia Ignite Challenge, Transurban wants to generate ideas that will significantly increase the use of carpooling on toll-roads. Carpooling presents a massive opportunity for cities to reduce congestion and carbon emissions, and make it easier and cheaper for people to get around.
Transurban is offering $15,000, with two runner-up prizes of $5,000 each. Transurban will choose one or more of the solutions to develop into a proof of concept, and potentially even pilot, and implement it.
Think you have a solution to the Transurban 2018 Banksia Ignite SDG Challenge?
